Transportation Geotechnics
Transportation infrastructure is subjected to various interactions with the subsoil, which may lead to safety-relevant conditions. Our research group applies and evaluates a range of numerical, experimental and monitoring methods to assess the structural health of transportation infrastructure, focusing on the geotechnical aspect. Mechanical models combined with the results of laboratory and field tests enable us to obtain comprehensive insight into the mechanisms that govern the behaviour of structures such as retaining walls or asphalt concrete pavements.
